Glycolysis and the citric acid cycle.

For a biochemistry class (which I really enjoyed!), we were offered extra credit if we diagrammed steps and structures of cellular respiration. I’ve trimmed out the line-angle models of glycolysis and membrane transport involved in the electron transport chain, and thus, here we have just the substrates and enzymes of glycolysis and the citric acid cycle… okay, and gluconeogenesis, and glycogenesis, and fermentation. Each color of arrow represents a different process, so keep that in mind. Also note that some enzymes are in multiple colors – that is because enzymes can work in reverse! That was probably one of the biggest takeaways I got out of this class; for years I was telling fellow students that enzymes have “just one job,” but they actually have two if we’re being technical about it.
